Programme Introduction
Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University’s MBA with a Specialism in Finance will equip you with the financial knowledge and understanding you need to boost your career.
This programme is designed with the finance professionals in mind, you will complete eight mandatory MBA courses, which will arm you with a solid understanding of key business disciplines, including economics, financial decision making, leadership, marketing, people skills, project management and strategy, before completing three optional courses which include corporate governance, credit risk management, financial risk management and quantitative methods.
The programme comprises of eight core courses, and three elective courses.

Entry Requirements:
Minimum Age Requirement: 22 years
Candidates need to have:
• A Degree recognised by Heriot Watt University or a qualification deemed to be equivalent, and with minimum 2 years of post-qualifying full-time working experience of a relevant nature, or
• A Diploma or non-degree holder. Student needs to pass in three courses / modules (one of which must be a core course for the MBA), and has minimum 2 years post-qualifying full-time working experience of a relevant nature
Language Proficiency:
• MBA & MBA with Specialism required IELTS 6.5 or equivalent
Modules
Applicable to the new May 2022 and later intakes. Any changes in modules will not affect the Dec 2021 and earlier intakes.
Core Modules:
This course equips managers and business professionals with knowledge, understanding and skills to manage projects using integrative concepts, tools and techniques. The course opens the mind-set for project decision-making and covers the fundamental concepts of the project management discipline and how it assists organisations in materialising their strategic and change objectives.
The course concludes with a closer look at current topics trending the project management profession, such as the project management office function, ethics, sustainability and agile project management.
Elective Modules:
This course establishes a clear skillset for company directors, allowing them to reconcile external and internal controls, risk management, competitive behaviour and adherence to corporate law.
Topics covered include corporate governance issues, concepts and domain, external governance (law and regulations), codes of ‘best practices’ and norms of behaviours, internal controls and accountability, risk management, external reporting need vs. delivery, reality in the face of prescription.
