Organisational Behaviour plays a very important part in all our lives, as citizens, as consumers, as employees or as employers. Learning about Organisational Behaviour will help you develop a better understanding about yourself and other people in the work environment. This course will provide you with the knowledge, concepts and tools to be more effective in dealing with your peers, subordinates and business associates. It will focus on developing you as an effective and successful manager. In this course, you will learn the impact of individuals, groups and structure on the behaviour within an organisation, for the sole purpose of applying such knowledge towards improving an organisation’s effectiveness.

This subject offers a basic understanding of the issue of risk of lending by banks to individual borrowers and corporations, and the measures undertaken by various credit functions in a bank to manage the portfolio. Various common consumer and corporate loan facilities will also be discussed. The principles of good lending practices and how to carry out credit risk assessment based on both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of credit evaluation will be covered. Students will be introduced to the basic know-how of risk identification and the practical tools pertaining to consumer and corporate credit risk analysis including financial, business and industry analysis will be explained to the students.

This module aims to cover various financial markets, instruments, and institutions, with the primary focus on the capital raising and financing activities of firms at different stages in their life cycle. The perspective will typically be that of a firm wishing to raise capital, though the course will quite often also examine financing transactions from the viewpoint of the participating financial intermediary. The course analyses financing choices for young firms for which there exists little or no security price information and then examines capital raising issues relevant to larger, listed firms. Topics include the decision to go public, mechanics and pricing of Initial Public Offerings (IPO), role of investment bankers in IPOs, privatisation, bank and public debt markets, securitisation, credit ratings, junk bond markets, equity financing and signaling, convertible debt financing, interest rate, currency and price risk management, and issues relating to corporate hedging.

This module provides students with a framework for understanding and thinking strategically about employment relations and the management of human resources in organisations. The course draws on insights from the social sciences to explore how economic, social, psychological, legal, and cultural forces influence employment relations. Topics include the design and implementation of Human Resource Management (HRM) systems in multinational companies; adjusting Human Resource (HR) systems to international variations in the external environment of the employment relationship; the development of international careers; and the integration of local employees into global organisations. The experiences of the Americans, Japanese and European corporations establishing HRM systems in industrialised, transition, and developing economies will be discussed.

Banking Operations is a subject to be taught in the second year of the degree programme in Banking and Finance. In this module students will be provided an understanding of the practices underlying banking operations. The subject will enable students to analyse banking operations, review competitive strategies and the marketing of bank services. These areas are examined using theoretical models to evaluate the rapidly evolving policy of retail, and international banking.

This subject aims to give students an understanding of the conceptual framework of business finance and to develop the skills of analysis and evaluation needed in applying the concepts to the practical situation. It also aims to help in understanding how financial management can assist management in sourcing and utilisation of funds. It contains a critical examination of the theory and practice of financial management, investment decisions and dividend policy.

• Prepare appropriate financial ratios for use in analysing financial statements and to critically evaluate the ratios, taking into account any inherent limitations;
• Identify different courses of actions to deal with financial problems;
• Present a clear, well structured report using appropriate style and language.
