The Advanced Diploma in Counselling programme is aimed at offering students further studies in counselling built upon the foundation provided at the Diploma level in counselling. It is designed to prepare and develop students academically and socially for successful higher academic studies within the discipline of counselling. Students academic abilities will be moulded to the standard expected of a counselling graduate.

This module is designed to cover the main theoretical approaches to the study of individual differences and to critically examine research findings in this area. The focus of the course is on developing an integrated picture of the whole person through understanding of the major facets of personality and how these work together to shape behaviour. Students will also explore the extent to which personality is the outcome of uniquely personal inner dynamics, the extent to which individuals reflect family, social, cultural and technological influences

The “Effective Counseling Approaches” module aims to improve students’ hands-on skills in interacting with clients in a therapeutic setting. This module highlights the development and implementation of core counseling skills while focusing on a variety of counseling approaches, such as person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-focused techniques. Students develop active listening, empathy-building, and nonverbal communication skills through experiential learning, which improves their capacity to build rapport and foster a supportive counseling atmosphere.

The module addresses the boundaries, confidentiality, legal considerations, and intercultural competency in addition to ethical concepts. In order to provide ethical decision-making and cultural sensitivity for successful client care within ethical bounds and legal frameworks, it covers ethical challenges, professional conduct, and legal duties in counseling practice.. The goal of the module is to provide learners with a framework for making moral decisions in a variety of counseling settings by addressing the difficulties of multiple relationships, cultural competency, and legal obligations. This module promotes critical thinking and the application of moral concepts in actual counseling situations through case studies and discussions.

This module helps to develop students the basic interpersonal and communication skills required for successful counseling practice. It covers a wide range of fundamental abilities, including as nonverbal communication, rapport-building, active listening, and empathy. The module also places a strong emphasis on reflective techniques and self-awareness, urging students to acknowledge their emotions and biases while upholding professional limits. This module helps students to practice and hone these abilities through role-plays, simulations, and hands-on exercises, which improves their capacity to build meaningful relationships and assist people in a variety of counseling scenarios.

This module provides a thorough knowledge of methods and approaches for effectively handling and reacting to crisis. The theoretical underpinnings of crisis intervention are covered, with a focus on quick fixes and temporary solutions for urgent psychological situations. This module offers valuable perspectives on evaluating crisis scenarios, comprehending the psychological effects of crisis on people, and recognizing risk and protective variables. The module also covers ethical issues in high-stress scenarios and emphasizes the value of self-care for professionals working in crisis intervention. Students can practice crisis intervention skills through case studies and simulations, which equips them to respond to a variety of crises with tact and efficiency while offering immediate support and facilitating

This module helps to develop the core skills required to lead group therapy sessions that are productive. Important topics like group dynamics, leadership philosophies, and the phases of group growth are covered in this module. Furthermore it explores the counselor’s responsibility for establishing a secure and encouraging environment that fosters growth and engagement within the group. Students investigate different approaches to handling disputes, building unity, and encouraging involvement in the group. The module also covers the ethical issues particular to group therapy settings as well as the significance of cultural sensitivity in group dynamics.

This module is designed to focus on how human development intersects with different life stages and how this affects counseling techniques. The module explores ideas and developmental stages related to psychological, social, and emotional growth from early childhood to late adulthood. Furthermore it explores how experiences throughout life affect people’s attitudes, actions, and mental well-being. This module emphasizes the dynamic interplay between nature and nurture and stresses the significance of taking a variety of cultural, familial, and societal influences on development into account. It also covers the application of developmental theories by counselors to successfully customize interventions and support techniques.

The “Individual and Group Counselling” module provides a dual investigation of the subtle dynamics of individual counselling sessions and the complexities of group therapy environments. The essential ideas, methods, and moral issues particular to group and individual counselling are explored by the students. Pupils get the skills necessary to create personalized evaluations and treatment strategies. Students learn about group dynamics, facilitation techniques, and the use of therapeutic interventions in a group setting in the group counselling section.

Each module is assessed by academic work comprising written assignments, case study reports, essays, examination as determined by the subject profile. The assessment criterion varies from module to module and level to level.

  • EAIM Diploma in a relevant field of study, or
  • Polytechnic Diploma in a relevant field, or
  • BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in a relevant field of study, or
  • Other qualifications or professional qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis

Mature candidates who is at least 30 years old with at least 8 years of working experience.
