Programme
Modules

This module prepares you for careers in international business and a range of management or human resource occupations by exploring the key challenges, strategies and practices in managing the international human resource. It focuses on the ethical management of people in globalised environments, addressing issues such as 4IR, modern slavery, remote working and cross cultural/global leadership. You will evaluate people practices within diverse, dynamic and geo-political contexts, equipping you with the knowledge to navigate contemporary challenges in managing people internationally, in addition to considering the employment of international workers in the domestic setting.

This module develops students’ ability to apply accounting and financial management concepts in strategic business decision-making while integrating sustainability, and contemporary technologies in finance. It introduces the principles and purposes of financial and management accounting, highlighting the importance of accounting information in evaluating organisational performance and supporting effective financial control. Students will learn to interpret and analyse key financial statements, apply financial ratios, and draw meaningful insights into business performance. The module also explores budgeting, variance analysis, and performance measurement systems such as the Balanced Scorecard to support strategic planning and evaluation. Through the study of investment appraisal techniques, capital budgeting, and risk assessment, students will develop critical skills for evaluating long-term financial decisions. Attention is also given to internal and external sources of finance, capital structure choices, and the financial risks associated with different funding strategies. Ethical considerations and sustainability principles are embedded throughout the module, encouraging responsible and informed financial decision-making. By the end of the module, students will be equipped to integrate financial insight with strategic and sustainable business practice.

Good global marketing is recognised by governments, international organisations, and businesses as a key driver of economic growth and organisational success. This module explores the processes and strategic decisions required for organisations to develop and implement effective global marketing approaches. It examines how marketing strategies are influenced and supported by the wider customer supply chain, including logistics, quality management, and the development of a coherent global marketing mix. Students will analyse contemporary international marketing theories and evaluate how these can be applied in practice across diverse markets. Key topics include global marketing strategy and planning, international market research, business-to-business marketing, digital and social media engagement, and e-marketing. The module also considers how innovation and technology shape global marketing practice and enhance competitiveness. A central component of the module is the study of consumer behaviour in global contexts, enabling students to understand how cultural similarities and differences influence purchasing decisions and brand perception. Through a blend of theory, case studies, and applied learning, students will develop advanced analytical and strategic skills to evaluate global marketing opportunities and design responsive strategies that align with organisational objectives in an increasingly dynamic and interconnected marketplace.

Strategic Operations Management focuses on how organisations design, manage, and improve their processes to deliver products and services effectively. In this module, you will explore how operations contribute to an organisation’s overall strategy and success. You will improve your knowledge of how decisions about resources, technology, quality, and people shape performance and competitiveness. Through case studies, discussions, and practical tasks, you will examine real-world examples of how operations are managed in different industries. You will develop an understanding of key concepts such as process design, supply chain management, capacity planning, quality improvement, and sustainability. The module encourages you to apply these concepts to your own experiences, helping you connect theory with practice. By the end, you should be able to evaluate operational strategies, identify areas for improvement, and make recommendations that enhance efficiency and customer value.

In today’s business environment, effective leaders, managers, and professionals need to make decisions grounded in solid evidence and reliable knowledge. This module is designed to help you develop the research skills and critical understanding needed for success in your postgraduate studies—and throughout your career. As part of the module, you’ll complete an independent research project at master’s level. You can choose between two pathways, depending on your interests and professional goals:

Route A (standard): Dissertation / Final Project

This is the traditional academic dissertation, giving you the chance to explore a topic that matters to you in depth. You’ll demonstrate your understanding of research philosophy and core principles, whether your approach is empirical (data driven) or nonempirical (theoretical or conceptual).

Route B (optional): Investigating a Business Issue (IBIstyle) Project

This option allows you to base your project on a micro placement, professional development activity, or networking opportunity that you source independently. You’ll investigate a real business issue arising from that experience, applying research skills to a live organisational context.

Across both routes, you’ll learn how to:

  • Design and plan a research project
  • Execute your research with confidence
  • Report your findings clearly and professionally

By the end of the module, you’ll be equipped not only to carry out your own research independently, but also to commission, manage, and evaluate research conducted by others. These capabilities will strengthen your effectiveness in any professional or managerial role you pursue next.
