Certificate In Business English
Programme Introduction
The EAIM Certificate in Business English (CBE) consists of 4 Stages of the English Training for Entry into Degree Programmes (ETEDPTM)
• 3-months BETEDP (Elementary);
• 2-months ETEDP Stage 1 (Intermediate)
• 2-months ETEDP Stage 2 (Upper Intermediate)
• 2-months ETEDP Stage 3 (Advanced)
This programme was originally designed in collaboration with SEAMEO’s RELC (South East Asia Ministry of Education Organization) Regional English Language Centre and University of Wales and delivered by RELC in 2001. The programme have has been revamped 4 times by EAIM to improve on the quality of learning and teaching.
Programme Objective
- To attain a good command of the English language and build a strong foundation in the 4 area of language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing);
- To equip students with linguistic competence to progress toward their degree courses;
- To reinforce English grammar rules;
- To build an extensive vocabulary bank covering both social and business terminology;
- To empower students in understanding general business concepts used in defferent contexts;
- To build confidence in public speaking skills;
- To equip students with the ability to engage in conversations, discussions, arguments and expression of opinions;
- To enhance students’ writing skills by learning strategies on how to write summaries and reports;
- To gain mastery of English as an effective tool for the purposes of communication in social and business situations.
Modules
This module equips students with the essential academic reading skills by understanding how to read for general understanding and specific information in passages. Some reading strategies to be covered are skimming, scanning, reading for details, reading for tone and reading to identify sequence of events.

*The program is a face-to-face program, in view of Covid-19 and travel/border restriction, the program is delivered face to face or on blended mode in Singapore.
Each BETEDP student will progress to ETEDP after achieving 4.0 or 4.5 in the final BETEDP examination. Upon registering for ETEDP, a student will need to complete each stage before progressing to the next sequential stage. Upon successful completion of all ETEDP levels and attainment of ETEDP Level 3 (equivalent to IELTS 6.0) for the final ETEDP examination, students will be awarded the Certificate in Business English (CBE).
Graduation Requirement
• Must passed all modules
• Must achieve an overall attendance of 90% (International Student) and 75% (Local Student)
• Students whose standard of English proficiency is below IELTS 4.0 or its equivalent will enter into BETEDP programme.
English Entry Requirements to Business Programmes
• Certificate – Minimum completed BETEDP programme (4.0), IELTS 4.0 or equivalent
• Diploma Programme – Minimum ETEDP Level 1 (5.0), IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
• Advanced Diploma Programme – Minimum ETEDP Level 2 (5.5), IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
• Bachelor Programme – Minimum ETEDP Level 3 (6.0), IELTS 6.0 or equivalent
• MBA Programme (English) – Minimum EAIM ETEDP Level 3 (6.0) / (6.5), IELTS 6.0 / 6.5 or equivalent
(Depends on the universities English entry requirement)
• MBA Programme (Chinese) – Minimum EAIM ETEDP Level 1 (5.0), IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
