Bachelor of Science (Hons)

In Medical Bioscience (Top-Up)

关于计划

With academic content developed by Aston University, one of the top universities in UK, and offered through East Asia Institute of Management (EAIM), the 24 months Medical Bioscience course is the ideal academic progression pathway for biomedical and life science related Diploma holders in Singapore.

The BSc ( Hons) Medical Bioscience will equip you with the training, professional skills and technical knowledge required for a rewarding career in biomedical science or research in the allied health profession. It will give you the abilities needed to provide healthcare, undertake medical research and understand the pharmaceutical industry. You’ll develop a thorough knowledge of the core principles of how the human body works, and a deep understanding of the vital role biomedical scientists play in the healthcare sector.

Entry will be start of stage 2 and will be via recognised prior learning of an approved programme of study at Diploma level.

This qualification offers you the flexibility to begin your studies in October, January, April and July each year and, on successful completion, you will graduate with an honours degree awarded by Aston University.

Academic content is provided by Aston University academics, and you will also be supported by tutors at EAIM. The course director on behalf of Aston University is Dr Stephane Gross, Lecturer in Cellular Biology.

计划
模块

This module aims to equip learners with the knowledge on the molecular and cellular principles underlying pathology. Students will apply fundamental knowledge to describe, at the cellular and molecular level, how the immune system responds to infection or damage can have beneficial or detrimental outcomes. Learners will be exposed to molecular mechanisms of pathology including cell death, inflammation, cell proliferation, genetic diseases and proteinopathies.

This module aims to provide in depth information about the physiological processes that regulate homeostasis by which the human body maintains a relatively constant internal environment and the hormonal signalling pathways. Students will understand the methods used to diagnose endocrine disease and apply knowledge about hormonal regulation of homeostasis to real word scenarios.

This module provides students an opportunity to explore disease mechanisms and in depth understanding of clinical genetics and experience in applying it to human disease. Students will be exposed to techniques for detecting genetic variation, PCR and Sequencing.  Learners will also be exposed to cloning techniques for accessing and interpreting information on genetic variation.  This module also equips learners with the knowledge of Genomics, Transcriptomics and Proteomics.

This module aims to equip learners with the knowledge of prevention, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of disease.  This module helps to develop the skills that directly reflect the competency required to practice as Biomedical Scientist. It also aims to provide an overview of the three main pathology disciplines; Haematology & Transfusion Science, Clinical Biochemistry and Cellular Pathology.

Final Stage (Block 5 – Block 8)

This module aims to provide in depth understanding of Cancer biology including its nomenclature, causes, metastasis and the basis for conventional and novel therapies and development of resistance.  It equips learners to understand various cancer treatments and cell resistance.

This module provides an opportunity to gain in depth knowledge of practical techniques relevant to biosciences and prepare students to undertake an individual research project.  This module will equip learners to develop an individual research project proposal and carry out wet lab projects within industry or other external agencies.

This module aims to equip learners with the ability to critically analyse relevant scientific data and helps to demonstrate appropriate application of good practice with respect to employability related activities.  This module aims to develop skills to critically evaluate the importance of codes and acts in biomedical science.

his module aims to equip learners with the knowledge of current and emerging methods for identification, treatment and prevention of clinical and foodborne pathogens.  Students will understand the epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical presentation associated with clinical and foodborne pathogens and apply this knowledge to communicate information regarding antibiotic resistance to a range of end- users.

This module aims to develop knowledge about the cells and molecules of the immune system to enable protection and repair responses.  Students will develop knowledge to critically review, describe and explain experimental data and patient data.  This module will also equip learners with the skills to investigate and monitor disease processes and normal states.

This module aims to develop skills needed to plan and execute laboratory based or other practical work to answer a specific research question.   It helps to develop knowledge needed to maintain a complete and accurate record of experimental findings, analyse the results of practical work and draw relevant conclusions based on the experimental work.
