Milestones and Achievements
1984
The history of East Asia Institute of Management and its genesis into one of Singapore’s top private education institution (PEI) began 35 years ago when Dr. Andrew Chua, Executive Chairman, started Informatics Software (S/W) in 1984 to train IT software professionals and managers for then burgeoning IT industry.
It was also in line with the government effort to transform the Singapore into a high-tech and high value-added economy. From 1984-2000, it has trained more than 50,000 IT professionals and managers.
2001
Informatics S/W was transformed into an academic institute and renamed the East Asia School of Business (EASB).
EASB adopted the UK CATS framework in the design of its diploma and advanced diploma programmes, and the decision made EASB’s diploma and advanced diplomas internationally recognized, as well as articulated and accepted by about 30 universities in UK, Australia and N.Z, which gave our students a wide choice of pathways for the final-year degree.
EASB ETEDP Certificate of business English is recognized by more than a dozen overseas universities.
2002
In 2002, EASB entered an articulation and franchise arrangement with Queen Margaret University, and in 2003, tied-up with Edinburgh Business School (Heriot-Watt University) to offer postgraduate programmes.
2003
Recognition of EASB’s success came rapidly. In 2003, EASB became one of the first Private Education Organizations (PEOs) to receive the prestigious Singapore Quality Class (SQC) for PEOs Award by SPRING Singapore, a Singapore government agency responsible for standards setting and quality assurance in Singapore. The Singapore Quality Class for PEO award was given to private education institutions to recognize them for attaining a commendable level of performance in their journey to education excellence.
2004
In 2004, EASB moved into a self-contained campus in Henderson Road, making it one of the very few PEIs to have their own campus. EASB was upgraded into a management institute and renamed the East Asia Institute of Management. Notwithstanding its new name and elevated status, East Asia Institute of Management continued to be referred to as EASB. The letters “EASB” have been trademarked in several countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar and the People’s Republic of China, and serve as the letterings for our corporate logo.
2005
In 2005, EASB’s reputation was further enhanced by being an early recipient of the CaseTrust for Education award. Only PEIs which are Case-trust certified are allowed to recruit international students. All Case-trust PEIs are required to adopt a Student Protection Scheme (SPS) and students are to be kept under escrow in government designated banks or alternatively, PEIs are required to insure all collected student fees.
2006
Entered partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan (CMET) University to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Business disciplines.
2008
Students enrolment reached over 2,000. The Balestier campus was officially opened by the British High Commissioner, Mr Paul Madden in Dec 2008, and witnessed by the British Minister for Higher Education and Learning. With a land area of 18,000 sq metres and built-up area of 37,000 sq metres, the Balestier campus can house up to 4000 enrolled students with a state-of-the-art learning & leisure facilities.
EASB also offers a range of Master’s and Doctorate level management and business related courses, including the MBA and DBA from the Edinburgh Business School.
One reason for EASB’s sustained success is its Holistic Education Approach (HEA) in producing career-ready, confident, competent, creative and committed professionals that are immediately employable upon graduation. Their quick and ready employment into management and executive positions, by both local companies and multi-national corporations attests to the high value employers attach to qualifications obtained at EASB.
EASB set-up its Professional Development Division to provide short training courses and consultancy services in conjunction with professional bodies such as National Management Association (USA) and the Louis Allen Worldwide.
2009
In 2009, a network of regional offices has been established in China, India, Vietnam and Indonesia to coordinate student recruitment and expand student enrolment.
Under the umbrella of Queen Margaret University, the School of Allied Health Sciences was formed and the Bachelor if Professional Studies – Nursing (Post Registration) was launched.
Received the SME Growth Excellence Recognition Award in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2019.
Private Education Act enacted and saw the formation of the Council of Private Education (CPE), a regulatory body under the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) to oversee and regulate the Private Education Industry.
2010
In May 2010, EASB was among the first batch of private education institutions (PEIs) to be registered with Singapore’s Council of Private Education (CPE) under its mandatory Enhanced Registration Framework (ERF) and awarded the 4-year EduTrust Singapore certification.
2011
EASB entered a partnership with Aston University, and a collaboration agreement with the Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) a subsidiary of Korea Tourism Organization
Setting up of the $2 million Hospitality & Tourism Training Centre (HTTC) to conduct its own in-house supervisory and managerial training. Offered 300 scholarships worth S$7.5 million in tuition fees waiver to the SAFRA and the Lion Clubs in Malaysia.
2012
Launch of the Singapore Management Journal to promote academic writing and research among post-graduates and faculty.
Successfully re-awarded the Singapore Quality Class Accreditation for the 3rd time.
The only PEI to achieve the Enterprise 50 awards (Ranked 6th out of Top 50 enterprises)
Ranked 4th for ‘Overall Most Preferred Private Education Institution (PEI)”, Top 3 for “Top PEI for a Bachelor’s Degree” and “Top PEI for Post-graduate Degree” (JobsCentral Ranking and Survey 2012)
2013
EASB signed a 5-year partnership agreement with Sheffield Hallam University (UK) to offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in business and management. Successful SQC renewal (2013 – 2015). Opening of EASB Auditorium and Gym Centre.
2014
Successfully renewed the 4-year EduTrust certification, with a new validity period of 20 May 2014 to 19 May 2018. Selected by the Singapore 50 (SG50) Economic & International Committee Secretariat as one of the successful SMEs to be featured in the “50 Schools, 50 SMEs” project, spearheaded by Spring Singapore, IE Singapore and the National Library Board to pay tribute to firms that have contributed to the nation’s economic growth story.
2015
In 2015, EASB together with 9 other institutions of higher learning within the ASEAN region formed the ASEAN ACADEMIC ALLIANCE (AAA). The AAA brings together institutions with common aim and commitment of fostering academic development of public and private tertiary institutions among the ten member nations.
In 2015, during the celebration of Singapore 50th Independence Celebration, EASB was identified as one of the Top 50 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) homegrown SMEs who have contributed to the nation’s economic growth story by SPRING Singapore, Singapore Economic Development Board, International Enterprise (IE)Singapore and the National Library Board Singapore.
2016
In 2016, continued to achieve the status of Singapore Quality Class (SQC) for Business Excellence from SPRING Singapore. The certification is valid from 29 February 2016 to 28 February 2019. We successfully renewed the SQC Award for the 4th time.
2017
In 2017, EASB implemented the New Blended Learning (NBL) pedagogy, involving the extensive use of digital technology, installation of smart classrooms and Learning Management System. This strategic innovation creates a positive and holistic learning environment for students to more efficiently and effectively learn, develop and master relevant skills deployable in a digital and globalised economy
EASB was honoured to be invited as a founding member of the China-Asean Tourism Education Alliance (CATEA). In the same year, EASB acquired a majority shareholding of the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS)’s training arm, Tourism Management Institute of Singapore (TMIS).
2017, launched the EASB Oversea Merit Scholarship in-conjuction with the Cambodia Higher Education Association and the Prime Minister Hunsen-EASB National Scholarship for 300 academically inclined students annually.
2018
In September 2018, degrees awarded by EASB’s University Partners, Cardiff Metropolitan University and Queen Margaret were accredited by the Chinese Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE), a registered corporate body affiliated to the Ministry of Education (MOE), People’s Republic of China. This accreditation greatly benefits all graduates from year 2010 onwards.
In 2018, successfully re-awarded the 4-year EduTrust Certification for the 3rd time.
In October 2018, successfully obtained the license from the Cambodian government to operate an international University offering degree programs at Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate levels. This development is the latest affirmation to the highest standard of education East Asia Education Group provide to our students in this region.
2019
In 2019, continued to achieve the status of Singapore Quality Class (SQC) for Business Excellence from Enterprise Singapore. The certification is valid from 31 March 2019 to 31 March 2022.
In November 2019, entered partnership with De Montfort University to offer undergraduate programmes in Business and Accounting disciplines and postgraduate programmes, MBA
2020
In April 2020 Successfully transitioned into Home-based online teaching in conjunction with our New Blended Teaching methodology
In October 2020, new logo “ EAIM ” is introduced to replace EASB
2021
In Jan 2021, EAIM hosted 4 th China-ASEAN Tourism Education Alliance (CATEA) International Conference 2021 in EAIM Campus
2024
In March 2024, EAIM becomes an official Pearson Edexcel Approved Centre. This milestone highlights EAIM’s dedication to high-quality education and globally recognised qualifications, providing students with even more opportunities to succeed in their academic pursuits.
In May 2024, EAIM is pleased to announce its partnership with NCUK, bringing an accelerated pathway to world-class universities. This collaboration marks a new chapter in the pursuit of academic excellence and global education.
