Modules

You’ll learn to interpret financial statements, devise marketing and pricing strategies and grasp innovation processes. Additionally, you will develop insights into strategic processes and techniques to boost business performance. In the taught stage, you’ll delve into topics like marketing and operations management, sharpening your skills in these areas. You’ll also expand your knowledge in business sustainability and accounting, essential for understanding the contemporary business landscape. This stage hones vital transferable skills, setting you up for a dynamic career in business and management, with strengths in teamwork, communication and leadership. In the dissertation phase, you will undertake a research project on a chosen business and management topic, showcasing your ability to conduct independent research with a clear consideration of ethics, theory and methods.

This module explores the dynamic interplay between leadership, change management, and organisational culture. It delves into the complexities of leading organisations through transformational change, emphasising the role of leadership in shaping, sustaining, and evolving organisational culture. The module provides theoretical insights, practical tools, and real-world case studies to equip students with the skills necessary to lead effectively in environments characterised by uncertainty, diversity, and constant change. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, and experiential learning activities, students will develop a deep understanding of how to foster a resilient and adaptive organisational culture in the face of ongoing change.

This module focuses on developing essential accounting and finance skills, drawing on relevant accounting theories, models, and techniques as foundational elements for effective financial management and decision-making. Through the use of real-world case studies, emerging technologies in accounting, and practical financial simulations, it fosters applied learning. By the end of the module, students will have developed and applied critical knowledge, technical skills, and professional behaviours essential for accounting and finance professionals, enhancing their career prospects in the field.

This module introduces students to key economic factors that shape global business strategies. Students will explore how these forces influence the decision-making of firms in the context of dynamic global markets.

Students will critically analyse real-world economic issues that affect global business operations. Through economic modelling, the use of case studies, and comparative economic analysis, they will develop skills as to how firms develop strategies to deal with the complex economic environment. This module is essential for understanding global market dynamics. It equips students with the analytical tools to navigate economic challenges, enhancing both their strategic thinking and employability.

The module provides the necessary analytical tools required to effectively create viable business solutions for modern organisations. Students will learn how to conduct external and internal analyses on organisations through the exploration of real-world case studies.  Class discussions on the case studies will enable students to reflect and apply taught concepts to ensure that students are prepared for ethically conscious employment and enterprise development in the real world of business.

Strategy is at the core of all businesses. Mastering strategy will provide the key tools needed to perform in any business environment.

The module is designed to give students a competitive edge by honing their professional acumen and preparing them for success in a fast-paced global environment. Students will collaborate in multicultural teams to tackle real-world challenges focused on Environmental, Social, and Governance themes. Additionally, they can dive into entrepreneurship through a hands-on bootcamp and refine their commercial decision-making through cutting-edge, team-based business simulations.

This module equips managers and leaders of the future with the skills critically to evaluate research-based information. It covers various research methods and techniques, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Participants will learn to make informed and ethical decisions based on sound research findings, understanding the diverse approaches to conducting research and consultancy studies tailored to different questions and methodologies. This module builds the scaffolding for your applied research project and core competencies of research skills for global leaders.

The research project offers a unique opportunity for students to take the initiative and dive deep into a specific topic, fostering personal and academic growth. Building on the foundational knowledge gained in the taught portion of the programme, this module sharpens essential analytical and academic skills for lifelong learning in today’s dynamic business landscape. By conducting independent empirical or theoretical research, students gain a deeper understanding of their chosen subject and contribute to the field. Additionally, this module serves as a stepping stone for those considering further research degrees.

This module offers an immersive learning experience in social enterprise, where students explore the intersection of business and social impact. By blending theory with practical application, students will learn to create and manage ventures that address societal challenges while remaining financially sustainable. Through experiential learning – including case studies, interactive discussions, and real-world projects – students will gain the skills to lead and innovate in social enterprises. The module emphasises enterprise, employability, and sustainability, equipping students with the tools to drive social change, build meaningful careers, and develop ethical businesses that benefit both communities and the environment.

This module aims to:

  1. Introduce the marketing concept and the role the marketing function plays in achieving organisational success in national and international contexts
  2. Support students in developing their ability and skills in evaluating the impact of business environments and its implications for marketing decisions
  3. Prepare students to present actionable and sustainable marketing plans and strategies and evaluate a plan’s outcomes.
  4. Assess students’ knowledge and skills in applying marketing management theory and frameworks to a real-life organisation to support students’ future employability or entrepreneurial ambitions.

This module takes a stakeholder perspective to examine relationships between the government, employers, workers, and trade unions. Taking an international approach and examining outcomes on employment, wage negotiations, collective voice, employee involvement and equal opportunities. Additionally, this module provides a practical insight into understanding and applying employment law to a range of real-world scenarios within the workplace. Discussions and debates on the impact of future regulation will also be examined. Using the framework of employment regulation, this module will equip students to develop the relevant skills and knowledge to advise employers, design effective people practice’s and explore approaches to mitigate risk.

This module aims to provide students with an understanding of AI, the nature and structure of such a technology, along with the organisational context. It will provide students with an understanding, tools and frameworks that can be applied in the planning and implementation of an AI strategy, a key aspect of vast investments in business today.

Following an introduction to AI, students will look at a wide variety of tools that can be used to support work in areas such as strategy formulation, business process integration, risks, ethical implications, and security in the context of the fast-emerging space of AI.

The module will to share the latest evidence-based knowledge with students regarding different aspects of learning and talent development in organisations. It aims to raise awareness of how different management functions can be enhanced through human resource development (HRD) initiatives and how HRD relates to business strategy and effectiveness. This will enable students to develop a good understanding of learning, training and development in different settings and contexts and they will then apply their learning to a case study organisation.

The module addresses (i) the governance of corporations, and (ii) wider national frameworks of corporate governance, which include the institutional underpinning of economic transactions that protect property rights, enforce contracts, and organise collective action. Those corporate governance frameworks provide the infrastructure of rules, regulations, and information needed for cooperation and exchange among different economic actors, including individuals and corporations. In turn, internal governance of corporations reconciles different interests of multiple stakeholders, including owners, managers and employees, in order to minimise conflicts and ensure effective cooperation needed for business success.

Students will be better prepared to succeed in today’s complex and evolving work environments, whilst also being able to address contemporary challenges such as sustainability and ethical governance. Module will emphasise iterative problem-solving, enabling students to handle uncertainty and changes, increasing their employability in dynamic work environments. This module will underline transparency and accountability through clear communication, defined roles, and regular evaluations, will help to align well with good governance practices and ethical project management. Students will learn the adaption of AgilePM techniques that would assist Enterprise to rapidly develop, test, and refine products or services, reducing time-to-market and increasing the capacity for innovation. Module will also emphasize on Employability as employers value adaptability and problem-solving abilities, both of which are central to Agile methodologies.

The module will teach students key analytical techniques that are commonly used in industry to implement data-driven decision making. Specifically, the module will introduce students to fundamental topics in statistics such as types of data, types of data distributions, sampling, statistical tests, that are required to explore data and discover important patterns and relationships in it. Furthermore, the module will teach basic statistical modelling methods such as linear regression, that are used to model various economic outcomes and study effects of different factors on them. On completing the module, students will be able to apply relevant analytics techniques to tackle practical business problems.

This module provides students with an advanced understanding the multiple sources of risk faced by companies in the two main categories: operational and financial risks. It develops the basic models for risk measurement and control. The mathematical models and methodology will be integrated with empirical evidence to provide the students with the tools to operate as a risk manager in the financial industry.

In addition, students will develop a critical understanding of the limitations and risks associated with the advancements of financial technology and the changing regulatory environment.

In the context of today’s dynamic global marketplace, sustainability has evolved from a buzzword to a fundamental element of strategic planning in international business.

There is an increasing demand for corporate social responsibility, driven by diverse stakeholders including customers, shareholders, suppliers, and partners. For companies operating internationally, sustainability entails far more than the implementation of sustainable practices; it represents a strategic avenue to achieve a competitive edge.

This module considers these critical issues and beyond, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the implications of sustainability for global business strategies, encompassing both the challenges and the opportunities it presents.

This module introduces students to the scope and role of marketing within national and international organisations and the dynamic business environment in which they operate.  Many businesses today have expanded and are continuing to grow in the global arena in search of higher profits and market share.  Their success largely depends on their ability to apply business concepts in foreign markets as well as responding and adapting to global challenges.  Thus, marketing concepts and analytical frameworks which can be used in practice will be presented to students throughout the module.

Academic Minimum Entry Requirement

  • A UK bachelor’s degree classification of 2:2 (lower second-class honours) OR
  • An equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University OR
  • Other qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and the final decision rests with the university.

Applicants must also provide evidence of Singapore-Cambridge GCE O-Level Math with Grade C6 or above (or equivalent)

Mature Candidates: Applicants must be at least 30 years of age with 8 years of working experience. In all cases, the final decision on admission to the programme rests with the University.

English Language Minimum Entry Requirement

  • IELTS score of 6.5 overall with min 5.5 in 1 band and min 6.0 in all other bands; OR
  • Singapore-Cambridge GCE O-Level English Grade C6 OR
  • GCSE in English Language or English Literature at level C
