Programme
Modules

This module orientates learners to the world of programming even if they have had no programming experience. Learners are introduced to modern computer programming language, problem solving and algorithm development. They are also exposed to topics such as pseudocode, variables, constants, data types, operators, expressions, statements, classes, objects, control constructs, methods, passing parameters and arrays.

This module provides a strong grounding to learners in database theory and application, and its place within the implementation of computer-based applications. There is an emphasis on conceptual modelling to design a secure database that is implemented and queried using Structured Query Language (SQL). The syllabus covers the definition of a database, database management systems and their importance to business organizations. Learners will understand the importance and use of data models to design databases to meet business requirements.

This module presents learners to fundamental topics in mathematics that are essential to computing studies including propositional and predicate calculus, Boolean algebra, set theory, computer arithmetic and number systems in computing. It also provides an introduction to matrix algebra with applications to computing and cryptography. They are also exposed to how to rigorously build, from first principles, the tools needed to address a wide range of mathematical and scientific problems.

This module introduces learners to the building blocks of computing systems and the tools used information technology professionals. It connects learners with computing hardware and the algorithms encoded into software as well as other elements of computer systems. This ensures they are ready to engage with configuring, operating, and building computing systems.

This module provides a foundational understanding of computer networks, their components, and how they function. Students will explore network communication protocols, data transmission methods, and essential network devices.  The course will equip students with the knowledge to configure basic network settings and troubleshoot common network issues.

This introductory module equips learners with the foundational knowledge and practices of software engineering. It explores the software development lifecycle (SDLC), design principles, programming fundamentals, and essential tools and techniques used in building software applications. They apply this knowledge to design, build and deploy a simple web-based application. The module provides learners with the skills required in software design and development and prepares them to work in a team setting.

This module aims to equip students with fundamental Information Systems (IS) principles, enhancing their efficiency and effectiveness as workers, managers, decision-makers, and organizational leaders. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of IS concepts, tools, and practices, enabling them to leverage technology for improved business outcomes. Through this module, students will develop critical skills needed to navigate and excel in today’s technology-driven business environments.

This module introduces learners to the principles of cybersecurity and their application in real world scenarios. Learners are also exposed to knowledge required to protect and defend digital systems and applications in cyber space. It aims to raise consciousness among learners about common types of cyber risks, threats and attacks, as well as the applicable controls.
