About the Programme

The Advanced Diploma in Business and Finance programme is designed to equip students with essential knowledge and practical skills to excel in both business management and financial functions. This programme prepares students to manage the strategic and operational aspects of finance within diverse organizational settings, helping them navigate the complexities of today’s financial landscape. Students will gain a comprehensive foundation in business and finance studies, covering key subjects such as Financial Management, which focuses on managing an organization’s financial resources, and Investment Analysis, which teaches techniques for evaluating investment opportunities. Other important subjects include Corporate Finance, emphasizing financial decision-making processes, and Financial Markets and Institutions, providing insights into the functioning of financial systems. Graduates of this double major programme will emerge with a robust understanding of how to manage financial assets effectively and drive business success. With knowledge in Risk Management and Financial Regulations, graduates will be well-prepared to address challenges in the financial sector and contribute to informed decision-making in dynamic and evolving business environments.

Programme
Modules

This module introduces students to the fundamentals of management including the roles and functions of modern managers. It covers management theory, organizational theory, as well as aspects of organizational environments, human resource planning, corporate social responsibility and ethics. Understanding these areas enable students to identify their role as emerging or future managers, and how leadership can influence positive contributions to individuals and organizations.

This module introduces students to basic principles of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory and the methods of economic analysis. Students will examine the demand-supply model, market equilibrium, elasticity, and how the prices of goods and services, and the cost and revenue curves are determined. Students will compare the key market structures: perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly and examine why government intervention is necessary in order to correct market failure and achieve allocative and productive efficiency. A good coverage of macroeconomic topics such as business cycle, national income, unemployment and inflation are included too.

This module aims to allow learners to contribute to various aspects on decision-making process that influence an organization’s behaviour and improve its performance. It enables learners to understand how changes in internal and external environment impact an organization and how different management practices can help shape its response to these changes. It looks at the importance of professional ethics and its relationship to managing risk.

In this unit, students will develop their ability to understand and analyses operational problems and propose solutions. This requires a thorough understanding of both operations management principles and techniques and the ability to apply this knowledge in practice. Students will learn about operations functions in manufacturing and service organizations, planning and control of operations processes and design application of key quantitative and qualitative methodologies and techniques and strategies to improve organizational performance in a globalized environment.

This module explores the complexities of financial management in a globalized context. Various financial instruments and markets, including foreign exchange markets, derivatives, and international banking systems would also be involved in the topic coverage and addresses the challenges and opportunities associated with conducting business in diverse international environments, emphasizing risk management strategies and regulatory frameworks.

This unit involves developing a conceptual framework and a practical set of skills that will allow the measurement of both risks and returns for a range of different investments including shares, derivatives, and fixed interest securities. As part of this conceptual framework, there will be ample coverage of modern portfolio theory, the capital asset pricing model, derivative securities, the efficient market hypothesis, and recent developments in the area of behavioural finance.

This module provides a comprehensive exploration of adopting innovation within organizations. Students gain expertise in formulating innovative strategies aligned with organizational goals, fostering creative thinking, and generating ideas. The curriculum explores the impact of emerging technologies on innovation, emphasizing risk management, implementation, and scaling of innovative solutions. The module also addresses the critical aspect of creating an organizational culture conducive to innovation, covering leadership strategies and communication practices. Overall, it equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively drive and manage innovation processes, strategically contributing to organizational growth and adaptability in a dynamic business landscape.

In this unit students will learn about how the financial markets work and how funds move from savers to borrowers and investors. They will understand how this movement of funds creates instruments that assist in this movement. Further, they will explore the different financial institutions in the financial markets and learn of how they utilize the various financial instruments to effect the movement of funds. Finally, they will learn about the financial markets that use the various financial instruments.

Assessment

Each module is assessed by academic work comprising written assignments, case study reports, essays, examination as determined by the subject profile. The assessment criterion varies from module to module and level to level.

Graduation Requirement

• Must passed all modules.
• Must achieve an overall attendance of 90% (International Student) and 75% (Local Student).

Academic Minimum Entry Requirement

  • EAIM Diploma in relevant field of study, or
  • Polytechnic Diploma in relevant field, or
  • BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in relevant field of study, or
  • Other qualifications or professional qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis

Mature Candidate who is at least 30 years old with at least 8 years of working experience.

English Language Minimum Entry Requirement
  • EAIM Certificate in Business English (Advanced), or
  • IELTS 5.5, or
  • O-Level C6 English or equivalent, or
  • Minimum score of 85 in Duolingo English Test, or
  • Other equivalent English qualifications
