About the Programme

The Diploma in Business and Marketing programme is designed to provide the theoretical and practical perspective of business management, particularly in the areas of marketing. Students will study subjects covering business, management and marketing. Students will gain knowledge and skill in areas such as Management and Organization, Economics for Business, Marketing Principles and Practice, Accounting for Managers, Business Finance, Business Analytics, People Management, International Business Environment. Students will be exposed to a full range of management skills that is useful to succeed in today’s business environment. They are also encouraged to be critical thinkers and learners that will enable them to embark on further learning and professional career developments.

Programme
Modules

This module introduces students to the fundamentals of management including the roles and functions of modern managers. It covers management theory, organizational theory, as well as aspects of organizational environments, human resource planning, corporate social responsibility and ethics. Understanding these areas enable students to identify their role as emerging or future managers, and how leadership can influence positive contributions to individuals and organizations

This module introduces students to basic principles of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory and the methods of economic analysis. Students will examine the demand-supply model, market equilibrium, elasticity, and how the prices of goods and services, and the cost and revenue curves are determined. Students will compare the key market structures: perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly and examine why government intervention is necessary in order to correct market failure and achieve allocative and productive efficiency. A good coverage of macroeconomic topics such as business cycle, national income, unemployment and inflation are included too.

This module explores the origins of trading, the evolution of modern marketing theory and practice, and the principles behind customer acquisition, retention, and business profitability. It emphasizes understanding marketing principles and their application across various industries, including innovative strategies such as digital marketing and social media.

This module introduces you to key concepts of financial accounting and supports you to apply these concepts to various elements of accounting. You will also examine financial statements and how they are analyzed and interpreted for effective decision making by both internal and external users.

This module is designed to provide students with basic concepts, tools and techniques that financial managers use in the contemporary business context. Students will learn about the principal functions of financial managers, the different business structures, and capital markets and financial securities. Student will also examine the valuation of investments and portfolio, project evaluation, the cost of capital, market efficiency, risk management, basics of foreign exchange and international financial market, and dividend policy.

The module is designed for students to use a variety of computational techniques and/or methods to evaluate and analyze huge sources of data in real time for trends, patterns, classification, relationship, and other useful information. Students will learn and examine data sets for statistical inference, and conduct quantitative analysis, predictive modelling, regression, data mining, and optimization. This is a practical based core unit and will provide students with foundation knowledge to contribute to the use of various data analytics for problem solving.

This module provides students with a good foundation of important people management principles and its role in achieving organisational goals. The evolution of the human resource function and the employee life cycle is discussed along with the inclusion of topics that range from planning, recruitment, selection, training and development, performance management, reward, to motivation. Both internal and external factors that influence and shape an organisation’s human resource policies, practices and efforts will also be examined.

The International Business Environment module aims to establish a robust foundation for understanding the intricate multi-level structure of global business interactions. It presents the international business environment as a dynamic interplay between domestic and global factors, intricately shaped by institutions, businesses, and stakeholders. Students can also develop a better understanding of the various dimensions influencing this environment by exploring factors that significantly impact businesses operating on the international stage.

Assessment

Each module is assessed through a combination of written assignments, case study reports, essays and/or examination. The assessment criterion varies from module to module.

Graduation Requirement

• Must passed all modules
• Must achieve an overall minimum attendance of 90% (International Student) and 75% (Local Student).

Academic Minimum Entry Requirement

  • 2 GCE A-Level passes at C grade or equivalent, or
  • EAIM Certificate in Business Management or equivalent, or
  • EAIM Diploma in Foundation Studies or equivalent, or
  • Completed 12 years of formal education, or
  • LCCI Diploma Level 3

Mature Candidate who is at least 30 years old with at least 8 years of working experience.
