Programme
Modules

This module orientates learners to the world of programming even if they have had no programming experience. Learners are introduced to modern computer programming language, problem solving and algorithm development. They are also exposed to topics such as pseudocode, variables, constants, data types, operators, expressions, statements, classes, objects, control constructs, methods, passing parameters and arrays.

This module provides a strong grounding to learners in database theory and application, and its place within the implementation of computer-based applications. There is an emphasis on conceptual modelling to design a secure database that is implemented and queried using Structured Query Language (SQL). The syllabus covers the definition of a database, database management systems and their importance to business organizations. Learners will understand the importance and use of data models to design databases to meet business requirements.

This module presents learners to fundamental topics in mathematics that are essential to computing studies including propositional and predicate calculus, Boolean algebra, set theory, computer arithmetic and number systems in computing. It also provides an introduction to matrix algebra with applications to computing and cryptography. They are also exposed to how to rigorously build, from first principles, the tools needed to address a wide range of mathematical and scientific problems.

This module introduces learners to the building blocks of computing systems and the tools used information technology professionals. It connects learners with computing hardware and the algorithms encoded into software as well as other elements of computer systems. This ensures they are ready to engage with configuring, operating, and building computing systems.

This module provides a foundational understanding of computer networks, their components, and how they function. Students will explore network communication protocols, data transmission methods, and essential network devices.  The course will equip students with the knowledge to configure basic network settings and troubleshoot common network issues.

This introductory module equips learners with the foundational knowledge and practices of software engineering. It explores the software development lifecycle (SDLC), design principles, programming fundamentals, and essential tools and techniques used in building software applications. They apply this knowledge to design, build and deploy a simple web-based application. The module provides learners with the skills required in software design and development and prepares them to work in a team setting.

This module offers learners the foundations of data analytics, data mining and knowledge discovery methods and their application to practical problems. It brings together the latest research and practical techniques in data analytics, providing learners with the necessary knowledge and capacity to initiate and conduct data mining research and development projects, and professionally communicate with analytics experts.

This module provides learners with an overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI), fundamental concepts, techniques, and applications. They will gain a broad understanding of AI’s history, philosophy, problem-solving approaches, its impact on various fields, and ethical considerations. Through theoretical learning and practical exercises, learners will develop the skills to understand and apply basic AI techniques and tools.
