This module is designed to provide students with an overall perspective of the scope, nature, and methods involved in psychological research. The major concepts examined in this course include memory and learning strategies, research methods in psychology, the biological basis of behaviour, motivation and emotion, sensation and perception, learning through classical and operative conditioning, intelligence, thought and language, and consciousness.

This module aims to help students build skills in understanding the origins and concepts of mental health and how it is intertwined with myths, challenges, issues, and practices. Students will learn about different typologies of mental health, its incidence rate and determinants, relevant theories and frameworks, as well as the differing perception and treatments. It will also explore the roles played by individuals, groups, communities, and societies towards the promotion of enhanced mental health awareness and treatments.

The “Principles in Counselling” module provides a fundamental framework for comprehending the fundamentals of successful counselling practice. This module explores several counselling techniques, such as person-centered, cognitive-behavioural, and psycho dynamic theories, and covers their theoretical foundations, ethical issues, and practical purposes. In order to help students understand and apply theoretical principles to real-world situations, the module incorporates case studies, role-playing, and interactive discussions. Upon completion of this module, students will possess a firm grasp of the fundamental counselling ideas, ethical frameworks, and interpersonal skills necessary for successful client interaction and moral practice in the field of counselling.

Students examine and implement intervention strategies targeted at promoting healthier family functioning and resolving problems like breakdowns in communication, disputes, and dysfunction via case studies and experiential learning session.

The “Individual and Group Counselling” module provides a dual investigation of the subtle dynamics of individual counselling sessions and the complexities of group therapy environments. The essential ideas, methods, and moral issues particular to group and individual counselling are explored by the students. Learners get the skills necessary to create personalized evaluations and treatment strategies. Students learn about group dynamics, facilitation techniques, and the use of therapeutic interventions in a group setting in the group counselling section.

Each module is assessed by academic work comprising written assignments, case study reports, essays, examination as determined by the subject profile. The assessment criterion varies from module to module and level to level.
